With so much to see and do in Barcelona, it can be hard to know where to start. Whether you’re a history buff, a culture vulture or a passionate foodie, we`re here to help you with the top 3 things to do in the Catalan capital. Attractions, Walks and finally, Events.
Here are a few must-visit attractions you won’t want to miss when visiting Spain’s iconic coastal city. One of the most popular attractions in Spain is the Sagrada Família. It is a Catholic basilica designed by the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí. This piece of art has been under construction for over 100 years and isn’t expected to be completed for at least another twenty more years but that hasn’t stopped attracting over 3 million visitors each year.
Another marvel designed by Antoni Gaudí, is the Casa Batlló, a former townhouse constructed for the Batlló family in the 19th century. Its unusual appearance rich in curves, natural forms and a quasi-reptile-like tile have earned it the nickname of Casa del Drac, or House of the Dragon.
Last but not least, Park Guell is one of the most popular outdoor attractions in Barcelona. Once again, this colourful beauty has Antoni Gaudi written all over it! Together with his patron and friend, they had started construction on a model home. However, the project had to be abandoned due to lack of investments, and it was eventually donated to the local council and transformed into a public park. For as low as €7.50, you can visit this popular destination in Barcelona with much to see and many places to take great pictures!
Walking through La Rambla is a unique experience. It starts at the epicenter of Barcelona (Catalonia Square) and stretches along many important spots you`ll want to get acquainted with. The architecture can be quite stunning. To begin with La Boqueria, Barcelona’s most iconic street market, where it’s possible to buy and taste local products. As the walk progresses, more nontraditional establishments and peculiar characters start to appear, such as the human statues and street performers, a must see spectacle in La Rambla. Last but not least, is Joan Mio`s circular title work crafted by the artist himself. And if you look even closer, you just might find the tile that Miro signed himself!
